Microsoft has unveiled its highly anticipated Xbox Game Pass Wave 2 lineup for October 2024, headlined by none other than Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Set to release on October 25, this marks a significant moment as it's the first Call of Duty title to launch directly into the Game Pass subscription model. This bold move comes just a year after Microsoft completed its landmark $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which also brought titles like Diablo 4 and Modern Warfare 3 to the service.

The inclusion of Black Ops 6 is a gamble for Microsoft, which hopes to significantly boost its subscriber base and revenue through the appealing power of one of gaming's most iconic franchises. This strategy follows the recent adjustments to Game Pass pricing and structure, aiming to attract more gamers. However, there are concerns about the potential effect on full-price game sales. Some industry figures, including former Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, have historically insisted that releasing major titles into subscription services could cannibalize traditional sales channels, a viewpoint that contrasts with Xbox's approach.

As noted in an interview earlier, Xbox leader Phil Spencer expressed confidence in this new strategy, emphasizing that different minds are now guiding the direction of the brand after the Activision acquisition. Spencer humorously acknowledged the change in decision-making dynamics following the merger.

Looking towards the immediate future, players can also anticipate the arrival of other notable titles. Starting October 16, the quirky and beloved South Park: The Fractured but Whole will be available for all Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Standard subscribers. Following that, Donut County will rejoin the library on October 17, alongside a day-one release of MechWarrior 5: Clans for Xbox Series X|S.

Of course, the highlight remains Games Pass on October 25, with the arrival of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. On the same day, players can also dive back into last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and the free-to-play battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone, both available through Game Pass Ultimate.

As the month progresses, even more games are set to appear. On October 29, Ashen will make its return to various platforms under the Game Pass umbrella, followed by the inclusion of Dead Island 2 for PC players starting October 31, rounding out a busy month for gaming.

Notably, new classics are set to arrive in November, with StarCraft: Remastered and the StarCraft II: Campaign Collection both hitting Game Pass on November 5, marking an exciting start for the next month's lineup.
